FAQ

Arrival & departure times

Check-in is from 3:00pm until 6:00pm.

*If you are arriving outside of these times a letter will be left at Reception with very clear instructions for you as to how to find your room.

Check-out is at 10:00am. 

If an exception is required, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.

 

Children

We warmly welcome children in both Ruby Cottage and Lismore Cottage which have been purpose-built to be family and child-friendly.

Both Cottages have full self-catering kitchens, spacious, comfortable open plan dining and lounge areas, Smart TVs, plus bathtubs and showers.

Cots and high chairs are available on request.

The Lodge has been designed as a peaceful adult-only retreat, typically for couples or groups. 

*Children under 16 years of age are only allowed inside the Lodge area when guests have Exclusive Use of the entire property.


Complementary facilities

Drying Room & Storage

The drying room and storage area is available for guest use. Please ask for access.

Guest Laundry

The guest laundry is open 09:00 to 20:00. Washing powder, tumble dryer and clothes line are provided.

Wifi Access

Wifi access is freely available throughout the Homestead.

Mountain bikes

Mountain bikes are available for hire.

Outdoor Dining & Entertainment

The outdoor hot tub, fireplace, dining area and BBQ are available for use from 9:00am until 9:00pm.

By 10:00pm we respectfully ask that you vacate the outdoor BBQ area out of consideration for our neighbours and your fellow guests.*

*Please note that outside fires are on occasion subject to fire bans as imposed by the Wanaka Council – usually in the summer months. Please do not take offense if we cannot safely, legally permit you to have an outdoor fire when you come to visit.

Damage

All loss or damage to property, carpet or fabric stains in excess of normal wear and tear will be charged for at cost.

Guest Areas

The dining area and lounge in the Lodge is for the exclusive use of Lodge guests only.  Being bed & breakfast accommodation, there are no guest kitchen or cooking facilities in the Lodge accommodation.  Each Lodge room does have a small fridge & their is communal tea/coffee making provision, and a small microwave, in the Lodge lounge area.

The Cottages are fully self-contained and set up with open plan living, dining and kitchens for self-catering. Cottage guests do not get breakfast in their tariff, unless organised prior, and at an extra cost.

Guests have free and full reign in their own building (Lodge or Cottage) – all have  use of the outside facilities, full laundry, ski storage & drying room.

*Only in the case of Exclusive Use of the entire property can Cottage guests enjoy the Lodge dining and lounge area. 

Payment

Cash, Eftpos, Credit Card, Internet Banking.

We accept the following Credit Cards: Visa, MasterCard.

*Please note – if you pay by Credit Card, you will incur a 2.2% service charge.

If not paid prior, full payment is taken on arrival.

*If payment is made via internet banking, any bank fees incurred by Wanaka Homestead due to an international transfer of funds, will be passed on to the guest.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Policy to the end of December 2021, due to Covid-19:

In the event of booking cancellation, Wanaka Homestead will apply the following fees:

Within reason, and outside the 7-day window cancellation will be free, free & free.

*And then, within 7 days of the booking, if the New Zealand Government & Ministry of Health closes your lovely city/country off from us and makes it impossible for you to access us – we understand. We will work with you to move or change your booking where able – if unable to move it, please be assured that we will not take your money if the cancellation is covid restriction related. If not covid related, cancelled within the 7 day booking window, or a no show, 100% of the booking cost will be taken.

In the case of Exclusive Use Bookings of the Homestead:

We will work with you to move your booking to a shiny new date that follows all Government & Ministry of Health advice of when we are able to.

*Please note: to secure an Exclusive Booking, a 20% non-refundable deposit is required. Should you need to move your booking, this same deposit will just move with you into your new booking.

Servicing

If you request a service, our housekeeping staff will make beds, clean surfaces, empty bins and change towels.

For the sake of the environment, towels can by laundered less frequently.  We are part of  Te Kakano Trust. The trust grows and plants native plants along Lake Wanaka and the streams feeding into the lake. If you don’t need a room service, please advise us at reception and we will donate $2 per room, and $5 for a cottage, to the Trust on your behalf.

When you do you want your towels laundered, please place them in your bathroom sink or in the bathtub.

Separate towels are provided for hot tub use in the outdoor changing room/bathroom. 

All linen is provided. A full linen change occurs by default on every third day. 

Regrettably the daily Cottage servicing does not include washing up dishes due to time constraints.

Smoking

All accommodation is non-smoking/smoke free. You are able to smoke outside under our large tree, but please consider and respect the comfort of other guests, especially in regard to secondary smoke when it comes to open windows and doors.
